2009 Goals


On March 23, 2009, the VisibleGovernment.ca board set the following organizational goals for 2009.

  1. Goal: Enabling External Projects
    • By (A): Raising money to redistribute to external projects via grants and contests

      Requires:
      • Organizational Infrastructure
        • Incorporation
        • Bank account
        • Insurance
        • Audits
      • Organizational Credibility
        • Nice looking website
        • Skilled People on Board and in Advisory Roles
        • Effective implementation plan
    • By (B): Supporting projects as they are being developed

      Requires:
      • Policies on recommended technologies
      • Communication channels for project leads
      • Recruitment of subject matter experts
    • By (C): Promoting tools to public

      Requires:
      • PR channels
      • Development of grassroots communication channels
    • Metrics:
      1. Money raised.
      2. Number of tools funded.
      3. Effectiveness of tools funded as measured by metrics policy
  2. Goal: Raising Awareness
    • By (A): Speaking at conferences

      Requires:
      • Reputation
      • Content
    • By (B): Grassroots Communications – blog, mailing list, discussion group

      Requires:
      • Audience
      • Content
    • By (C): Creating tools which demonstrate concept & generate media coverage

      Requires:
      • Valid tools to develop
      • Development time or open source community
      • Channels for promoting tools

  3. Goal: Promoting the release of government information
    • By (A) Identifying Data Sets to release

      Requires:
      • Recruiting champions inside government to help identify data sets
      • Website for communicating data sets identified
    • By (B) Providing resources to government information managers to publish data

      Requires:
      • Wiki
      • Crowd-sourced content
      • Editorial group
    • Metrics:
      1. Data sets identified
      2. Use of resource wiki
      3. Data sets released
